TomTom Android Application On The Way

This image has no alt text

Since the G1 came out and I obtained one on launch day I have been missing one application in particular and that is TomTom. It’s time for that discussion to continue as TomTom execs have clearly implied the company is working on a TomTom Android application:
“We cannot ignore such a successful platform as Android. HTC is an important partner of ours and Android is becoming increasingly important too.”
I have used TomTom on the Windows Mobile platform for years and even Apple's iPhone now has the aplpication, although Symbian and BlackBerry users will have to wait a little longer, if not forever:
“We spent so much time producing the iPhone software and we were later on the scene than we wanted but the standard of the service and the quality of the satnav is what was most important to us.”

“I do not question the opportunity that RIM might offer but we know that a satnav device needs to have a large touchscreen and voice commands to be able to work for turn-by-turn navigation. We come from a PDA background and we know what will work.”
I'm very interested in following this story as it unfolds, and although Telenav presently leads the way on Android GPS navigation, the introduction of TomTom for Android will be a welcomed alternative and one I am eagerly awaiting.

Google Listen: Android Podcasts Gone Wild!

Google Listen: Android Podcasts Gone Wild!: "

This image has no alt text

Now would probably be a good time to revive our Android Podcast. Google has just launched a new service called Google Listen which for all intents and purposes, is a Podcast Manager for your Android device! It allows you to subscribe to audio streams, search for audio, find audio searches and much more. Here is how Google themselves describe Google Listen:

Listen from Google Labs brings podcasts and web audio to your Android-powered device. It lets you search, subscribe, download and stream. By subscribing to programs and search terms it will create a personalized audio-magazine loaded with fresh shows and news stories whenever you listen. In this release Listen is indexing thousands of popular English-only audio sources.

The application looks INCREDIBLY polished - see for yourself (images failed due to below problem):

The application has obviously become IMMEDIATELY popular based on the “Over Quota” error I got when trying to access the application’s download page:

overquota

In fact, right now it appears that the beta version is completely inaccessible at http://listen.googlelabs.com - hmmmmm that’s odd? We’ll update this post as we learn more, but it seems that what you see is what you get although right now it will only be available for Android’s in the United States.

Windows 7 upgrade chart available

Windows 7 upgrade chart available: "Microsoft has made available the official Windows 7 Upgrade chart, via allthingsd which indicates which previous versions of Windows are available for an in-place upgrade to Windows 7, and to which version they can upgrade. You can view the chart below: As you can see from just a glance at the chart, it's relatively confusing. Windows 7 offers no direct upgrade path from XP, which was announced very early on in the Windows 7 development life cycle. Very specific upgrade paths from other versions of Windows Vista exist also. You can perform a "Custom Install" which is pretty much a clean install, but you have the option to install Windows 7 to another disk without overwriting data.

Best Ever Blonde Joke

A blonde calls her boyfriend and says, 'Please come over here and help me. I have a killer jigsaw puzzle, and I can't figure out how to get started.'

Her boyfriend asks, 'What is it supposed to be when it's finished?'

The blonde says, 'According to the picture on the box, it's a rooster.'

Her boyfriend decides to go over and help with the puzzle.

She lets him in and shows him where she has the puzzle spread all over the table.

He studies the pieces for a moment, then looks at the box, then turns to her and says,

'First of all, no matter what we do, we're not going to be able to assemble these pieces into anything resembling a rooster.'

He takes her hand and says, 'Second, I want you to relax. Let's have a nice cup of tea, and then ...' he said with a deep sigh, . .. . .. . . .

'Let's put all the Corn Flakes back in the box!'

Windows 7 to sell in UK for half the US price

Windows 7 to sell in UK for half the US price: "Those lucky individuals who live in the UK will be able to purchase a full copy of Windows 7 for half the price that it is sold in the US. Cnet was the first one to discover the massive price difference and did the due diligence to confirm that this is actually the case. "In the UK, full versions of Windows 7 Home Premium -- not an upgrade edition -- are going to cost around £65. That's less than the price the Yanks have to pay just for an upgrade version -- $120 (£72) -- and half what they'll have to cough up for a full version -- $200 (£122).

Google unveils audio search engine for Android

Google unveils audio search engine for Android: "

It makes sense with a smartphone to listen to lots of audio content. Audio content for many users isn’t limited to music though. Podcasts are a big thing for many smartphone users and Google has unveiled a way to find even more podcasts to enjoy from your Android device.

googlelistenlabs

Google has announced Google Listen, described as an audio search engine and it acts as a podcast manager. Using the app, you can subscribe to audio feeds and download new content over the air. The app has its own search bar where you can enter a term for a type of podcast you are looking for.

Once the term is entered, the app will find podcasts that relate to the search term and rank them in order of relevance. Once you find the podcast you are looking for, it can be streamed immediately and you can play multiple podcasts from a queue to create a digital magazine. The app can be downloaded now at the link below.
