To all our new Australian friends and all us newbies to this amazing country, a very happy Australia Day, now let's get out there and celebrate in style people!

Well what a start to the Australia Day 2012 celebrations!
We rocked up at around 18:30 and were treated to a display by the Rouletttes who are to Australia what the Red Arrows are to the UK, to say their display was brilliant would be an understatement, they flew so much lower than the arrows you almost felt like you could touch them.
The concert was held on the lawns of Parliament House in Canberra with celebrations kicking off with the announcement of the Australian of the Year Awards.
Following that we had a couple of songs each from Katie Noonan and The Captains and INXS and then it was time to start the concert properly, in other words the part that was going out on tv.
We were treated to sets from INXS, Katie Noonan and The Captains, Sneaky Sound System, Spiderbait, and The Potbelleez which is being touted as the concert’s strongest line up yet.
For me INXS were brilliant but The Potbelleez were simply phenomenal totally getting the crowd behind them, and much bouncing was done!
There was a short set from Spiderbait whom I have never heard of before, but OMG! They totally tore the place apart, starting with what I believe to be an all time legend song Black Betty. They may not be your cup of tea but I would urge you to find them on YouTube performing this song, it had be at the first beat!

This is funny whilst showing what is a serious issue in the UK where the Police are under staffed, I of course do not suggest you try this yourself.

One of those couldn't be arsed to cook evenings this evening and we were headed out to Macca's when my phone went off. It seems we were not the only ones who fancied a slightly more relaxed tea this evening.
So a short time later we were ensconced in Bella Vista restaurant in Belconnen having a very nice Italian. This is definitely a restaurant I would recommend to anyone who likes pasta dishes as they really we're excellent. The restaurant is licensed and also does BYO although this is for wine only so no bringing down your favourite beer as it will remain capped.
Having enjoyed the meal we took a stroll beside Lake Ginninderra in a vain hope it would compensate for the bread, pasta and alcohol that had been consumed and this is where today's picture was taken.

It's my birthday! Oh heck that makes me another year older, I guess there is nothing you can really do about it and to be honest it really doesn't bother me that much :)
This year she who must be obeyed suggested that we have a trip to Surfers Paradise for my birthday and a this seemed like a splendid idea I jumped at it. We stayed at the rather excellent QT Gold Coast which for those that may like a boutique hotel I can certainly recommend.
Whilst here we have had a fair bit of fun with Jake ad Matt going scuba diving, all the kids visiting Wet'n'Wild and two night out one at a night zoo/ show and the other at the Outback Spectacular show which was on my birthday. Both evenings were excellent and I'd again recommend them should you ever happen to be in these here parts :)
It also turned out that the girl who checked us out comes from Canberra so that was pretty cool, finally someone who isn't negative about the place, to be fair most people who are have never been, and have no idea it is in fact Australia's best kept secret :)
